Is Steam down? Thousands of people reported down and unable to sync on Friday

Gamers using the streaming platform Steam may be dealing with some sort of glitch.

According to down detectorthere were more than 11,000 reports of outages as of 1 p.m. Friday.

Here’s what we know about the power outage.

As of 1:17 p.m. Friday, Steam had not released a statement regarding the status of the service or the cause of the outage. The unofficial Steam server status website states that both Cloudflare and Akamai are investigating connectivity issues.

“Cloudflare continues to restore service to customers. Cloudflare has also identified a way for affected customers to self-resolve the impact by re-advertising their prefixes via the Cloudflare dashboard.” Cloudflare said in its latest update:.

Launched in 2003, Steam allows users to buy, download, and play games on their computers. It also offers social features such as friends list, chat, cloud saves, and multiplayer matchmaking. Over time, it has become one of the world’s largest PC gaming platforms with thousands of titles from major publishers and independent developers.

In addition to PC games, Steam supports handheld devices such as Valve’s Steam Deck, with features such as game streaming, community forums, and user reviews.

According to Downdetector’s heat map, Steam was reporting outages in North and South Texas near major cities like Dallas and Houston.

Most of the reported issues were related to server connectivity, accounting for 43% of reports. An additional 26% of users reported login issues and 17% reported issues launching the game.
