Stephen prepares for ‘big challenge’ at Saints

Julian Stefan will be hoping QPR can repeat the heroics of Saturday’s high-flying win at Hull City when they visit Southampton on Tuesday (8pm CET).

R’s, who had one win in six games, won 3-1 at MKM Stadium after a strong second half.

They are 13th in the Championship, but are level on points with Saints in 11th, just four points out of the play-off places.

“It’s about the mindset you have when you’re away from home,” says Stephen. Speaking to BBC Radio London.

“We performed very well physically against (Hull) and being able to repeat that physically after just three days will probably be the biggest challenge, but it’s very important for us to be able to do that if we want to show some consistency.”

He added: “Southampton are progressing well, which is not surprising. They have some very good players and I think they are expected to get promoted.”

“It’s going to be tough, but if we can repeat mentally and physically what we did against Hull then we’ll have some chance. Let’s see if we can do that. I really hope we can.”

Stefan said he has learned that the key to success in the Championship is to get out of a rut as quickly as possible, adding: “It’s normal to have ups and downs. Sometimes you’ll have bad moments, but the ability to break out of those bad moments quickly is the key to the Championship.”

“The big lesson for me this season is to switch quickly after a bad day or a bad game, don’t be depressed for too long.

“In the Championship, everything can change quickly. You have to shut out the noise and stay focused on the team, the players and the process.”
