BB Mailbag: Marcus Rashford’s future, Barça Atlétic contract and 2026 World Cup

In our new mailbag, we’re looking for all your questions about Hansi Flick’s Barcelona team, and this time we’ll be focusing on Marcus Rashford, Barcelona Atlétic’s new signings, and the upcoming World Cup.

So, without further ado, let’s get started…

What do you think about the idea of Barça buying Rashford on a permanent basis at the end of the season? Keep in mind his age, his achievements and the most important factor is his high salarypsyduck_14

This is the big question right now. The Spanish press seems convinced that Rashford will stay, and Flick clearly likes him, but…well, there are some problems. Let’s look at the positives: he’s settled in well, has already scored 10 goals and 10 assists, and is a useful option to have on the bench, especially after his injuries in the first half of the season.

But while his huge salary will certainly be an issue for Barça, paying €30 million to sign a player who is not their first choice is not the best use of money when they are strapped for money and have other priorities. It is understood that Barcelona are looking for a new striker who could be a centre-back, with Ferran Torres also hoping to sign a new contract this summer. There is much work to be done.

We also know that Rashford has occasional problems when it comes to pressing, missing a number of one-on-one chances, and outside of Newcastle, his goals have not been game-changing, to put it very critically.

He has scored in 2 defeats (Real Sociedad and Sevilla) and has also scored regularly when Barça were already in the lead (2 goals against Olympiakos, against Elche, home and away, in Copenhagen and Guadalajara). He is also the sixth player to score 10 goals for Barça this season. As we all know, finding the back of the net has never been a problem for Flick’s team, and Rashford will probably need to do a little more.

I think a lot will depend on what happens with Lewandowski and whether Rashford can continue to score between now and the end of the season. Will he stay? I don’t know if I’m being completely honest, but if it were up to me, it wouldn’t be my top priority this summer.

Considering all the recent players who have just signed for Atlétic, which players do you think will join the first team’s pre-season tour from the academy next season? – BarcaDESTINY

This is a really good question. These are very interesting times for Barça Atlétic, who have signed Hamza Abdelkarim and Juwensley Onstein, as well as Patricio Pacifico. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how these new players get on before passing judgment, but I’m looking forward to seeing them in action.

Flick took 30 players to Asia last summer, but I think only five were not first-team regulars, so we would expect a similar result. Tommy Marquez seems to be Flick’s favorite at the moment and should definitely have a chance, while Toni Fernandes could probably also be counted on for another outing. I think Juan Hernández and Ibrahim Diarra (who was scheduled to play last summer but withdrew at the last minute due to injury) could be nominated along with Xavi Esparto or maybe Joffre Trentos. The goalkeeper is also likely to leave, which means Koçen and Aron Yakobishvili, who is in good form on loan at Andorra, will also be out.

Which is your favorite team competing in this year’s FIFA World Cup? Who is the dark horse? Which teams are most likely to underperform (according to FIFA rankings)? Are there any young players to watch (aside from the usual suspects)? Another Curle

Now, this World Cup will be very different from previous ones, with 48 teams participating and 104 games played. I think Spain will make some stops, but then again, European teams have traditionally not performed well when tournaments are held in the Americas. Dark horse? We beat Morocco, but who knows what will happen after the turmoil in AFCON. Maybe Brazil can do something? (What do you think, Renato?!) Young players – I really enjoyed watching Estevao and Bayern Munich’s Renato Karl this season. If he were to join the German national team, he would be a player to keep an eye on.

That’s all for today. Renato will be participating in the next round of The BB Mailbag which will be held soon. As always, let us know your questions, comments, and thoughts in the comments section below.
