For a while, Conclave and All Quiet on the Western Front director Edward Berger was tipped to direct the next installment in the Jason Bourne series.
Last year, the rights to Robert Ludlum’s original novel The Bourne Identity, which led to the birth of the famous franchise, were acquired by Universal Pictures, but were put on the market before returning to Universal.
Last we heard back in September, Berger told THR he was still attached and “will do it when Matt comes.” [Damon] It has also been suggested that Black Doves showrunner Joe Burton will write the script.
Now, in the latest episode, Jeff Snyder’s “The Hot Mike”it has become clear that a big announcement regarding the franchise could be coming as talk about the next movie heats up as big things are happening related to casting.
It seems to be hinted that the role of Bourne itself may be recast, but this has not been fully confirmed. The series was last seen on screen in 2016 with Paul Greengrass’ Jason Bourne, which didn’t receive the same critical acclaim as Damon’s original trilogy.
The entire series grossed $1.64 billion at the global box office and is generally considered the most successful spy film series after James Bond.
