Palekele, February 24th: Pakistan cricket team players are notorious for dropping easy catches at crucial moments of important matches. Pakistan’s deadly spinner Usman Tariq dropped another simple catch in the crucial encounter of the Super 8 phase of the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup.
Usman Tariq misses a sitter during the match against England at Palekele International Cricket Ground on Tuesday. Usman made an easy catch, giving Jacob Bethel a lifeline.
Usman Tariq was defending with short legs when Jacob Bethel tried to hit Saim Ayub from distance. However, the ball hit the edge and went up near Usman. Usman Khan also chased the ball to take a catch but Usman Tariq called and Usman Khan stopped it and completed the catch.
Saim Ayub also celebrated early as if he had caught prey. But the surprise was yet to come when Usman Tariq took a simple catch while falling to the ground. Saim Ayub was stunned to see such an easy prey taken down. He held his head in shock.
However, Jacob Bethel was unable to make an impact from the lifeline he received. Bethel retired after scoring just 8 points on 10 pitches. Sahibzada Farhan took a brilliant catch from Shaheen Shah Afridi and he escaped for a boundary.
Shaheen Afridi has been selected as Pakistan’s bowler as the team looks to defend its target of 165 against England. Shaheen took a wicket with the first ball of the innings and succeeded in putting England on the back foot. Shaheen has given away only 13 runs in three overs and picked up three wickets in the matches so far.
Chasing 165, England are 53/3 after six overs of powerplay. Captain Harry Brook is in good form, leading from the front and batting well, scoring 43 runs off 21 balls.
