SAN FRANCISCO — Warriors star Stephen Curry will miss Tuesday night’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers due to a right knee issue that forced him to miss the previous game against Golden State.
The team officially lists the injury as patellofemoral pain syndrome, also known as “runner’s knee,” and typically consists of swelling and pain around the kneecap.
Curry first started experiencing the problem after a personal training session in Minneapolis on January 24th. He missed one game last Monday against the Timberwolves, but was otherwise trying to work through the issue until he left Friday night’s 131-124 loss to the Detroit Pistons due to discomfort.
Curry started wincing after committing a floater late in the third quarter and limped back to the locker room during the next timeout. He was quickly removed and was seen icing his knee in the locker room after the game and limping out of the arena.
Curry called the issue “very strange” and “something I’ve never felt before,” but the Warriors listed him as a routine issue. Warriors manager Steve Kerr said Curry’s return and management for the rest of the season will be up to Curry and Rick Celebrini, the team’s chief medical decision-maker.
The Warriors will also be without winger Jonathan Kuminga for the fifth consecutive game on Tuesday night due to a bone bruise in his left knee.
Kuminga returned to the court this weekend and is close to returning, but he is also a trade candidate. The deadline is Thursday afternoon, hours before the team’s next game in Phoenix.
