Changes in seasonal conditions will lead to localized weather activity over the next few days, leading to rain in parts of north India late Tuesday night and early Wednesday and light snowfall in Himalayan states.
According to the latest weather information shared by Mausam Tak founder Devendra Tripathi, snowfall is likely in parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, while light rain and thundershowers are likely to occur at isolated places over the plains of north India.
In the plains, rainfall is likely to be witnessed in southeastern Punjab including Ludhiana, Patiala and nearby areas, several districts across Haryana including Hisar, Sirsa, Fatihabad, Sonipat, Rohtak, Panipat, Karnal, Gurugram, Faridabad, Palwal, and Delhi and NCR regions.
The weather activity may also extend to western Uttar Pradesh, with chances of rainfall from Meerut to Lucknow and Baraichi and light showers in Agra, Kanpur, Mathura, Jhansi and Lalitpur. Isolated rains are also likely in northern Madhya Pradesh, especially in Bhopal, Ratlam, Gwalior, Rewa, Siddi and Singrauli.
Devendra Tripathi, a meteorologist at Kisantak, said that northern and eastern parts of Rajasthan may receive light rainfall at a few places, but stressed that the overall intensity of rain is not expected to be very heavy. He said significant rainfall was not likely to occur across the region, despite some reports suggesting widespread heavy rain warnings were in place.
However, as the transitional season approaches, the possibility of isolated thunderstorms and occasional hailstorms with strong winds cannot be ruled out, especially over parts of the northwest plains and northern Madhya Pradesh. Although current atmospheric conditions suggest limited activity, these conditions could occur if dense cloud masses form.
Meanwhile, another weather system near the Bay of Bengal is bringing heavy rains to Sri Lanka and is likely to bring rain to coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, including Thanjavur, Cuddalore, Kanyakumari, Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi.
The cloud cover may gradually spread over Bangalore, Chennai, Puducherry and Coimbatore with chances of rain over the next few days.
Most other parts of India are expected to remain largely dry.
