When she found out she got the role, Levitt tells PEOPLE that she was actually with her girlfriend. DTWS Partner Mark Ballas said, “He’s been a huge advocate and motivator for me to pursue it and give it my all.”

“He was really ecstatic and I was really excited,” she continued, specifically speaking of Ballas, who played Frankie Valli on Broadway. jersey boys “He saw the work I focused on.”

And throughout the rehearsal process, Ballas continued to support her, sharing everything from “technical stuff” like how to preserve her voice and body during grueling hours in the theater to more philosophical musings.

Best of all, Levitt said, Barras gave her the same advice before fleeing. DWTS: “Live in the moment and just be present, because that’s the most fun you can have. You’ll definitely perform better if you do that than if you just anticipate what’s next.”

“My go-to advice is Ariana,” Leavitt tells PEOPLE. “We talked a lot about the dos and don’ts and how to take care of yourself while doing this, because we’ve never done it before.”
