Wrexham face ‘established’ Ipswich

Max Cleworth feels Ipswich Town have one of the strongest teams in the Championship as Wrexham prepare to face the Tractor Boys for the third time this season on Saturday afternoon (15:00 GMT).

The Red Dragons drew 0-0 in the come-from-behind game at Portman Road on November 22, but defeated Kieran McKenna’s side 1-0 in the FA Cup fourth round last weekend.

And Cleworth feels today’s Championship battle between automatic promotion hopefuls Ipswich and Stoke Sea Lass will provide another indicator of Wrexham’s current situation.

“They have one of the best teams in the league. There’s a reason they were in the Premier League last year too,” the defender said of Ipswich.

“Their team is very good, so I think they can make a lot of changes and still be just as strong.

“They’re going to make some changes, but I think it’s going to be pretty similar in terms of how they play and the intensity of the games.

“I think they are a top team and an established club. To test ourselves against teams and players like this is a good sign of the direction of the club.”

McKenna made 10 changes to his starting lineup for the two teams’ cup match eight days ago.

The Northern Irishman is expected to rotate his squad again ahead of the Championship battle with Wrexham.

Despite a number of potential personnel changes, Phil Parkinson feels Ipswich’s approach to the competition will remain similar to the way it has been throughout previous campaigns.

“First of all, when [FA Cup] The game ended in a draw, resulting in a double header and we won the first header. Our aim now is to go another step in the league,” said the Wrexham manager.

“Will it be a similar type of game? I expect them to set up in a similar way. They’ve played the same way all season.

“I imagine various personnel will make changes, and so will we. We’ll know on the day.”
