sitting in 10th place league 1 tableWycombe Wanderers welcome Stevenage to Adams Park on Saturday afternoon, with both teams looking to close the gap on the top six.
The Chairboys were on the brink of their 12th league win of the season until Exeter City equalized in the 91st minute, while Boro continued their winning streak by defeating last time bottom-placed Port Vale.
match preview
After securing a top-six finish last season before being eliminated in the play-off semi-finals, Wycombe endured a difficult start to the 2025-26 season that ultimately led to the departure of Mike Dodds and the appointment of Michael Duff as his replacement.
Since taking over in September 2025, Duff has overseen 31 games across all competitions, with a record of 14 wins, 10 draws and seven losses, keeping the Chairboys in the play-offs.
Wycombe may have been hoping to go into this weekend’s game in a better position, but Jaden Wareham’s stoppage-time goal gave Exeter a point and denied Duff’s side any chance of recovering from their 3-2 defeat at Reading with a valuable win.
These recent results have done little to improve their away struggles, with Wycombe winning just two of their 16 away league games this season. Duff knows he needs to improve in this area to stay in the playoffs.
Having said that, the Chairboys started the month with their biggest win of the season, a 4-0 home win against Doncaster Rovers, and will be back at home for the first time since that win this Saturday, so we can’t afford to be too disappointed with their last two results.
A back-to-back win at Adams Park this weekend could see Wycombe Wanderers go into next week just two points off sixth place, giving them the best chance of finishing in the play-offs for the second successive season.

As for Stevenage, they have followed up last season’s mid-table finish admirably so far, going into this season four points clear of Saturday’s opponents and sitting just one point outside of League One’s top six with games in hand.
Consecutive 3-1 defeats to Barnsley and Northampton Town saw Alex Revell’s side fall out of the play-off places and they needed to act quickly before they slipped further out of the way.
With an impressive 1-0 win over play-off rivals Huddersfield and a 2-1 win over bottom-of-the-table Port Vale, Boro got back to winning ways at the right time despite their most recent win being marred by a serious injury.
Bristol City loanee Harry Cornick appeared to collide with a post while scoring his first goal for the club, sustaining a serious injury to his right ankle that resulted in play being stopped for nearly 10 minutes and requiring him to be carried away on a stretcher.
Cornick’s goal secured the three points, giving Stevenage the chance of a third successive league win and, depending on other results, potentially finishing the weekend in the play-off places.
But to achieve that, they need to improve their away form. Rebel’s side have lost each of their last five away games, with their last away win coming before Christmas.
Boro have contributed to this recently, winning 1-0 in August when they last met.

Wycombe appear to have no new injury concerns after their draw with Exeter, but Duff may consider making changes to refresh his squad after failing to win back-to-back games.
Luke Leahy is one of the players who could start this Saturday after only coming off the bench in the last game, while Liam Henderson is a favorite to take over as skipper of the Chairboys.
Cory Woodrow has struggled to maintain consistent momentum throughout this season, but he has scored two goals in his last five games. With the in-form Fred Onyedinma supporting the attack on the left, it is expected that he will once again lead the line.
Caolan Boyd-Mance will be sidelined after sustaining a quadriceps injury earlier this month.
As for Stevenage, he suffered a serious injury in the last game, so the level will have to change for this game.
Cornick’s injury deadline has not yet been determined, so he is expected to be sidelined for some time, potentially even staying on the sideline until the end of the season. Jamie Reid is most likely to be in the starting lineup.
Cornick joins Tyrese Simpson on the sideline, and the return of Jasper Pattenden to the bench will give the Rebels even more depth heading into the weekend.
Wycombe Wanderers starting candidates:
Norris. Grimmer, Casey, and Hagerschaar, Harvey. Molly. J. Quitilna, L. Harris, Leahy, Onyedinma, Woodrow.
Possible starting line-up for Stevenage:
Marshall; Good, Piergianni, Freestone. James Wildin, D. Phillips, Early. Kemp. Reed, M. Phillips
We say: Wycombe Wanderers 2-2 Stevenage
Separated by several positions and four points, this is well set up. Stevenage come here on the back of five successive road defeats, but expect their dismal run to come to an end somewhat at the weekend when they share the points.
